Starting with my favorite…
Affiliate Marketing is hands-down my favorite way to work from home on the computer. After you get rolling, a large portion of your income is completely passive. It breaks down to very simple steps:
- Build a Website
- Add Content
- Find Related Affiliate Programs
- Add Affiliate Links
- Get Paid
- Online Passive Income – Affiliate Marketing
- What Is Affiliate Marketing About?
- Create A Blog To Make Money
Below are some excellent training programs to learn the ins-and-outs of affiliate marketing.
This is the best training platform I’ve come across. Not only will you learn affiliate marketing, they’ll teach you how to build your website, market your site, and create effective content. The member community is huge, active, and very helpful. They even include hosting as part of the membership. You can sign up for the free Starter Membership, and by the time you finish the included free lessons you’ll have your own website up and running without spending a dime.

This is a decent training platform. They teach affiliate marketing, content creation, and traffic generation. There is a large member community of helpful people, but it is not as active as others. They offer a free starter membership that provides a good look at what they have to offer by means of training.
One thing I don’t like about Affilorama is that they support the use of PLR (Private Label Rights) content. This type of content is basically pre-written posts that you tweak a little. It’s not a great idea because others will be doing the same thing with the same content, and search engines don’t like duplicate content.
This can be an easy, passive way to make extra money from your website. With contextual ads, you simply place a line of code on your post or page, and the ads are generated automatically. You get paid every time an ad displays, or when the ad is clicked, depending on the program.
It will require a little more effort, but after your site is getting high enough traffic numbers you can sell ad space directly. That could mean contacting businesses in your market and pitching the idea, or providing a link for interested advertisers to contact you. Again, once the ads are set up the income is passive. You continue earning for those ads as long as the advertiser wants their ad displayed.
Below are some contextual ad networks that pay per 1,000 impressions (CPM) that you may want to try.
Obviously, this is Google’s ad network, and the largest contextual network there is. Sign up, get approved, place the code, and make extra money with minimal direct effort.
Coming in as the second largest contextual ad network, Media.Net serves ads from the Yahoo! Bing network. From what I’ve been able to gather Media.Net has exclusive access to this network of advertisers, meaning you can only tap into this income source through them.
Bookkeeping is a great way to start earning an online income. More and more small businesses are seeing the advantages of outsourcing their bookkeeping needs, and this could mean a full-time income for you without having to drive to the office.
Bookkeepers Business Launch
This is an incredible training opportunity. They will teach you everything you need to know to be a successful bookkeeper. On top of that, you’ll learn what you’ll need to set up your business, find potential clients, and pitch your services. Take a look at Bookkeepers Business Launch and see for yourself.
E-Books have taken the publishing world by storm, and you can use this to your advantage. Whether you write fiction, poetry, or how-to manuals, you no longer have to rely on a publisher accepting your manuscript. You can create an e-book, self publish, and sell it yourself.
Here are a few great options to publish your e-book.
Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
Everybody knows about Kindle. Well, you can publish your e-book and offer it for sale on any Kindle or mobile device with the Kindle app.
Another e-book publishing option, Smashwords publishes for just about every format, including Kindle, Nook, Kobo, IPhone, IPad, and computer.
Not quite ready to format your e-book solo? Check out this option for e-book file conversion and formatting.
EBookIt can take your raw text file or PDF and properly format it into the necessary .epub, .mobi or .pdf files accepted by e-book retailers.
Do you have a website that could use some how-to instruction? Are you a crafter with ideas to share? Whatever you know how to do, there are others who would love to learn it. You can use your videos to sell your product, link your channel to Adsense for a little ad revenue, or link to your website and related affiliate links.
Similar to how-to videos, if you have something you can teach, there are people who will want to learn it. You can create an online course with video instruction, written lessons and quizzes, then sell the course.
Probably the most popular and easiest to use online course creation platform, Teachable allows you to not only create your online course, they also host the course, handle payments, and automatically send your earning from your course to your PayPal account.
You’ve heard of Walmart, right? They buy products in build at low prices (wholesale) then sell them for a profit. You can do the same thing. Pick your product, then find a wholesaler. Aliexpress and Alibaba are great options for finding low priced products. I believe Aliexpress even has an option for drop shipping (perhaps another article on that later on). Once you find your supplier, sell!
You can set up a store on Amazon to sell your products. It’s easy to do, and offers you high visibility and instant trust. Hey! It’s Amazon!
Yeah, eBay! It’s not just for auctions. You can set up a storefront to promote your products at a set price.
Build your own website, then setup a store with Shopify. They make it easy to display your products and handle payment processing.
Do you build birdhouses? How about hand-paint wine glasses? Can you knit or crochet baby clothes? Perhaps you make wire or beaded jewelry? If you can make it, chances are someone will buy it.
Here are a few options where you can sell your products (some of these may look familiar)
Amazon again! Yes, you can sell your own product on your Amazon store, and you still get the high visibility and trust that comes from working with Amazon.
Sell your crafts on eBay. Launching a new product? Put the first few up for auction for even more visibility.
Etsy has grown into a huge marketplace, catering primarily to the hand-made goods market. Jewelry. Painted stemware. Cute wall-hangings with inspirational or funny quotes. The sky is the limit.
Sell your own products on your own website with Shopify. You could even tie in how-to videos or instructions with affiliate links to the materials needed. Some people will buy your product, and you make money. Others will learn how to make their own, and buy the material through your affiliate links, and you make money. Two income streams in one!
Do you already have a digital product ready to sell? Maybe an online course or an e-book? Guess what. You can get other people to sell it for you! They sell your product, you pay them a commission. A word of caution: Though it can be profitable, if you have to manage your own network it’s a lot of work.
Did you build your online course with Teachable? You can set up your affiliate network right within their platform. They handle the links, the payout to your affiliates, and send you your cut of the sale.
You can advertise your product through CJ and get affiliate marketers everywhere to promote it for you. You will need to handle payments to your affiliates yourself, so don’t bank every sale right away.
Like CJ above, you can put your product up on ShareASale for others to sell. Unlike CJ, ShareASale manages payments to your affiliates, making your life a little easier.
And there you have it, a few ways that you can work from home on the computer.
This list is by no means complete. I can’t even count all the ways that you could make money online. As time goes on, I’m sure I will add more to this page, so check back now and then.
I would love it if you could leave me a comment below. Let me know what you thought of my ideas for working from home with your computer.
